The Stevens Square Community Center is a thoughtful restoration, repurposing, and modernization of the historic former Maine Girls' Academy, previously McAuley High School. SSCC is part of the smart-growth, master-planned, 19-acre Stevens Square campus.
The main atrium is a public, open-to-all space and is free for Portland residents to enjoy. It’s intended for quiet moments like reading, working remotely, or simply spending time in a calm community setting. The Portland Winter Farmers’ Market, held in the gymnasium, is also open to the public, and is held on Saturdays from December through April.
The other facilities within the Stevens Square Community Center operate through memberships, rentals, or event bookings, depending on the specific space. These include the Health & Wellness Center and Indoor Pool, Theater, Gymnasium, Chapel, Café, Office Rentals, and onsite Child Care. At this time, restrooms inside the center are not designated as publicly accessible and are available only for members, tenants, or those attending booked events.
